Active volcanic systems

Testing our drone-based systems in extreme environments is critical. We do this to improve our systems and at the same time with the purpose of doing exiting research. Mapping of the young volcanic systems in the Northern Volcanic Rift zone in Iceland is an ideal place for testing our systems and also investigating how such systems evolve over time. In August 2019, we went to the Holuhraun lava field north of Vatnajökull to carry out detailed magnetic surveys and collect rock samples (for magnetization studies). Our hope is that we can reveal the subsurface connection between dyke systems of the Bardarbunga volcano and the older Askja volcano. For more information, see EML.
