Plate kinematic evolution of the Arctic

Understanding the evolution of ocean basins, critical for global studies in plate tectonics, mantle dynamics, and sea-level through time, relies on identifiable tectonic plate boundaries. However, despite decades of intense geophysical data collection and interpretation the formation of the Arctic Ocean remains unsettled due to magmatic overprint of the Cretaceous High-Arctic Large Igneous Province (HALIP). Based on satellite gravity and airborne gravity and magnetic data, we are working the Arctic plate kinematic puzzle together with researchers from CEED (Oslo) and GSC Halifax (Canada).
